“Invitation to a Gunfighter” (Richard Wilson, 1964)

George Segal estava em “maus lençóis”, quando aquela cidade vil e corrupta contrata um excêntrico e reputado pistoleiro de nome Jules Gaspard d'Estaing (Yul Brynner), a partir daí o, na altura, jovem tentaria a todo o custo desencontrar-se do seu eventual carrasco. O western “Invitation to a Gunfighter”, que porventura passava há uns meses nesses canais televisivos especializados em filmes, foi possivelmente o último momento cinematográfico em que coloquei os olhos em Segal, ator que nos deixa hoje aos 87. Apesar de “condenado” a viver o papel de alegre viúvo na série “The Goldberg” (um deleite para a minha fraqueza com sitcoms), Segal era um convidado humorado e por vezes incomodo em outras aventuras de cinema como, a mais célebre das suas participações, no caos matrimonial “Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” de Mike Nichols, ou tendo Jane Fonda como parceiro do crime na primeira versão de “Fun with Dick and Jane”. A registar como epítese, as reuniões com Robert Altman, Paul Mazursky, Peter Yates, Roger Corman e Stanley Kramer.
